Honestants and Swindlecants #10 (Solution)

Have you got your answer? Let’s compare with mine.

There are only rich or poor people on that island. An aborigine girl wanted just a rich Swindlecant. If you were a rich Swindlecant, how would you convince her saying only one sentence? And what if she wanted a rich Honestant (and if you were one).

Okay, there are 2 if-conditions here:
You’re a rich Swindlecant
You’re a rich Honestant
And you’ve got to convice her who you were.

Here, I want to make it easy, so I combine those if-conditions, then it will be:
Whether you’re an Honestant or a Swindlecant, you’re rich.

If we want to make a sentence telling that fact, we can use “Only if…, then…”. We can fill the first blank (after “only if”) by Honestant or Swindlecant. But for the second blank (after “then”), we fill it by fact (for this case is “rich”). So, a sentence you can use to convince her to choose you is “Only if I’m an Honestant, then I’m rich”.

If you’re not sure with that answer, let’s check!
The sentence is:
“Only if I’m an Honestant, then I’m rich.”
In other words:
“Only if I’m a Swindlecant, then I’m poor.”

See? Whether you’re an Honestant or a Swindlecant, you’re rich. And you’re the one she wanted.

So, a sentence you can use to convince her to choose you is “Only if I’m an Honestant, then I’m rich”.

Have you got your answer? Let’s compare with mine.
In this case, the gringo wanted to know what day it was, so he asked four aborigines and got different answers:
A: Yesterday was Wednesday (today is Thursday).
B: Tomorrow will be Sunday (today is Saturday).
C: Today is Friday.
D: The day before yesterday was Thursday (today is Saturday).

Here, we need to know how many people lied in order to know what day of the week it was. But we got no clue about how many people lied nor who lied. Can we solve the problem? Uhmpp….

Honestants and Swindlecants #7 (Solution)

Have you got your answer? Let’s compare with mine.

Based on the situation mentioned, we know that the gringo asked a man whether rumor about a fantastic buried treasure is true or false. Then the man replied, “On this island is a treasure, only if I am an honest man.” So shall he go and find the treasure?

“On this island is a treasure, only if I am an honest man,”
in other words,
“On this island is not a treasure, only if I am a Swindlecant”.

Let’s draw the possibilities:

There are 4 possibilities:
  • If the man is honest, then the statement must be true, and the treasure is on the island.
  • If the man is lying, then the statement must be false, and the treasure can be on the island.
  • If the man is honest, then the statement must be true, the treasure is must be on the island.
  • If the man is lying, and the treasure is not on the island, then the statement must be true. In this possibility, the fact is that the man telling truth (he’s honest).

So, whether the man is an Honestant or a Swindlecant, on that island must be a treasure. So, he’ll go finding the treasure.

There were 2 persons the gringo met there: the bartender and the man sitting next to him. The gringo asked the bartender if he spoke the truth. The bartender answered, but the gringo didn’t hear it. When the gringo asked the man sitting next to him, the man said, “The bartender said yes, but he is a big liar.” Is the bartender an Honestant? And how about that man?

Our Greatest Wealth

We are born with 2 eyes in front 'cause we must not always look behind, but see what lies ahead beyond ourselves.

We are born to have 2 ears (1 left, 1 right) so we can hear both sides, collect both the compliments and criticisms, to see which are right.

We are born with a brain concealed in a skull then no matter how poor we are, we are still rich, far no one can steal what our brain contains, packing in more jewels and rings than you can think.

We are born with 2 eyes, 2 ears, but 1 mouth for the mouth is a sharp weapon, it can hurt, flirt, and kill.
Remember our motto:
Talk less, listen, and see more.

We are born with only 1 heart, deep in our ribs, it reminds us to appreciate and give love from deep within.
